Welcome to SkyView Solutions

Our services

We offer a range of services relating to on-ground, aerial and satellite imagery.

We can provide a high level of expertise in the analysis and interpretation of digital satellite imagery and aerial photography. Our team has extensive experience in using optical and radar imagery for solving problems. Using our scene modelling approach we can advise on the best type of satellite imagery to use for your application.

SkyView Solutions also operates specialist videography equipment for capturing geo-referenced footage simultaneously recorded from up to 4 cameras. The cameras, GPS and hard drive recorder are compact and rugged and can be attached to a range of vehicles including quadbikes (ATVs), 4WDs, golf buggies and boats.

We have specialists in botany, zoology, geography, fire ecology, aquatic ecology, environmental conservation and policy, and can therefore provide you with comprehensive but user-friendly data sets tailored to your requirements.

We can assist you with many aspects of natural resource management (NRM), including:

-       Weed surveys and mapping

-       Fire history mapping

-       Fuel load assessments

-       Pasture condition monitoring

-       Precision agriculture (crop yield and health monitoring, pest scouting)

-       Assessing tree cover and forestry applications

-       Mine site rehabilitation

-       Property vegetation plans

-       Carbon accounting

We have a special interest in emerging technology in this industry, in particular the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to capture fine-scale aerial imagery for use in NRM.

Our team

The Directors of SkyView Solutions have extensive experience in natural resources management, aerial photography, satellite remote sensing and geographic information systems. Dr Leasie Felderhof has over 20 years experience in coordinating activities related to natural resource management and biodiversity conservation. She was instrumental in establishing an on-ground vegetation monitoring system, as well as a GIS for recording national park management activities. Dr David Gillieson has 20+ years experience in vegetation mapping and assessment using aerial photography, airborne videography and satellite imagery. John Pollock has over thirty years experience in leading applied research in cropping systems.  For more information on our team, please visit our About Us page.

Our equipment and data

We use a range of specialist equipment to process aerial and satellite imagery, as well as to capture geo-referenced videography.

We source imagery from a range of satellites (Landsat, SPOT, ASTER, QuickBird, IKONOS and WorldView2 imagery) as well as from radar (JERS, ENVISAT, ALOS/PALSAR), and use professional GIS software to process and analyse the acquired data.

Our geo-referenced videography is obtained using the Red Hen mapping system and processed using our geospatial multimedia mapping software to create comprehensive datasets for use in a range of applications including mapping of remote tracks, trails and river systems, powerline infrastructure and road/footpath condition reporting.

We are also investigating innovative civilian uses of UAV technology.  We have three different airframes and are exploring options for different applications.

Our base

We are based in Atherton, north Queensland, just over an hour’s scenic drive from Cairns.

We are available for consultation on imagery analysis and processing requirements for any area of interest, with particular experience in northern Australian and Papua New Guinean landscapes.

Our videography services are available in a number of areas across northern Australia – please contact us with your requirements.
